Ilya Kupenko

Photo of Ilya I am working at Institute for Mineralogy, the University of Münster as an Akademischer Rat auf Zeit (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the mineral physics group led by Prof. Dr. C. Sanchez-Valle.

My current research is focused on the studies of the composition of the Earth’s inner core and determination of its light element budget by investigating the phase relations, elastic and plastic properties of Fe-Si-C alloys in situ at extreme conditions. In order to address this problem I employ Powder X-ray diffraction, Nuclear Inelastic Scattering, Radial X-ray diffraction, and Multi-grain crystallography in resistively- and laser-heated diamond anvil cells at various synchrotron facilities.
